Some behaviors and way of life are able to hinder answered prayers because, they do not depict the life of a Christian. And if we should live in sin and cultivate bad habits, what then would be the difference between those who have accepted Christ and those who haven’t, especially when they pray.

- Being Unforgiving. (Unforgivenable)
One of the most ungodly acts a Christian can do is to be an unforgiving person. To hold grudges against someone. It has been stated in the Bible over 10 times that if a Christian is unforgiving, the Father will turn a deaf ear to the prayer of the person and the Father will also not forgive the person.
In Psalm 66:18, David said : “If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear me.”
Iniquity means sin, and unforgiveness is sin.
Also, in the most popular pray in the world, The Lord’s Pray, in Matthew 6:12-15, JESUS said, : “But if he forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses”.
With this statement, if you don’t not forgive another person, be it the person hit, insulted you, double crossed you or even if the person is fake friend, once you fail to forgive the person in your heart no matter the circumstances, Jesus says He will not forgive you when you sin against him, in which you’re likely to do, because no one is perfect.
2. Praying Selfishly
This kind of prayer has been done by almost 100% of Christians on earth, and it’s also one of the prayers that not likely to be answered by God. James 4:3 says : “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may spend it in your pleasures”
This kind of prayer usually forces people (Christians and non- Christians) to go to God and ask for something. This prayer always starts with “ God, if you do this for me, I will ….” . It’s always a critical situation. Eg : “God, if you get me this promotion, I will worship you forever. God, if you give me an B or even C+ in Academic Writing, I’ll go to church for the rest of the semester”
Yes, these kind of prayers are mostly not answered by God. “Mostly”.
3. Praying Without Faith
Faith is the substance of things you hope for. If you pray and you lack faith, your prayer has a 98% chance of not getting answered. The Bible says, we should pray and whatsoever ever we pray for, we should believe we have received it.
A Prophet once made me understand that, in Heaven, the currency spent is faith, so when you go to a shop to buy something, and you don’t have money (faith), you cannot make the purchase.
That also applies here, if you cannot pray with faith, with the hope and belief that you’ll receive what you’re praying for, you cannot receive from God.
When you doubt, it simply means you don’t believe God can do what you’re praying for.
In Mark 11:24, the Bible says : “ I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.”
4. Praying with sinful Pride
Like it or not, pride is one of the 7 deadly sins in the world, and if a Christian should pray, with pride in his/her heart, the Lord will never answer that prayer.
The Lord despises the proud, but loves the Humble.
No one is pure enough to talk to God feeling big, because all have sinned and fallen short of the glory and also there’s nothing God needs from us, He is God all by himself, without Him we are nothing BUT without us, He’s still God.
5. Some Problems can only be solved through Fasting & Prayer
As a Christian, it is compulsory for you to fast at least twice a month. Fasting will enhance your Christian life. Through fasting, you gain self-control.
In the book of Joel 2:12-13, it says “Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious andcompassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.”
Fasting opens the eyes of Christians, fasting makes one sober and acknowledges God. But don’t forget, when fasting, try as much as possible to hide it, do not make it obvious to people that you’re fasting, the Bible call people who do the opposite Hypocrites.
Matthew 6:16 “ And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get.”
6. Praying With a Sinful Heart
It is wise to always confess our sins and ask for forgiveness of sins before beginning our prayers. The Lord doesn’t listen to the prayer of sinners, and as sinners the Lord will automatically not Listen to us (John 9:31 We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but he is ready to hear those who worship him and do his will).
But if we ask him for forgiveness out of the depth of our hearts. He will forgive us, and then we can move on to pray.
